Questions we get asked

The things people write in and ask, answered straight. If yours is not here, send it over and it probably will be.

The station

What is Power88.FM?

Power88.FM is an internet radio station based in Fairfield, California, playing the greatest hits of the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s for Solano County and the Sacramento–San Francisco corridor. It launched in 2023 and streams around the clock, with live shows through the day and the station’s own mix filling the hours in between.

It’s written Power88.FM and said “Power 88” — the same station either way.

What frequency is Power 88 on? Is it 88.1 or 88.5 FM?

None — Power88.FM isn’t on the FM or AM dial anywhere. The 88 is part of the name, not a frequency. It’s an internet radio station, so it comes through a browser, a phone or a smart speaker rather than a tuner.

That also means there’s no coverage edge to drive out of. Listen here, or through the iOS app, TuneIn, Live365 and the rest.

How do I listen to Power88.FM?

Press play on any page of this site — the player rides along the bottom and keeps going while you browse. Nothing to install and nothing to sign up for.

On a phone there’s the Power88.FM app for iOS, and the stream is carried by TuneIn, Live365, myTuner, Radio.net and Online Radio Box, so a smart speaker will usually find it if you ask for Power88 by name. Every link is on the listen page.

What kind of music does Power88 play?

The greatest hits of the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s, plus the records from either side of that window that never left the rotation. Pop, rock, soul, dance — the songs that were everywhere at the time and still land now.

Some hours lean harder than others: All 80s Weekend runs Friday night through Monday morning, Club Power Play is dance-floor records on Saturday nights, and 20/20 Hindsight counts down a Top 20 with the stories behind it on Sundays.

Where is Power88.FM based?

Fairfield, California, with a studio the shows come out of live. The station plays to Solano County and the corridor around it — Fairfield, Vacaville, Suisun City, Vallejo, Napa and Concord — and because it streams, it’s heard well past that too.

Does it cost anything to listen?

No. It’s free, there’s no account to make, and there’s nothing to install unless you want the app.

The shows

Who is on the air in the morning?

Mark Shannon, weekdays 6–10am Pacific on Shannon.Show. He’s the station’s Program Director and he’s been on the radio better than four decades.

Middays are Mel from 10am to 3pm, and afternoon drive is Ry, 3–6pm. The full schedule has the rest.

How do I request a song?

Call or text 909-POWER88 — that’s (909) 769-3788 — any time, and it goes straight to the studio. You can also send it through the site, aimed at a particular show if you want it played on one.

Dedications work the same way. Say who it’s for and it gets read.
